River Valley cycle recently had our first “General Lee Grand Prix” bike race & BBQ here at our shop. The whole event was to be a fun get-together for our staff, club members, and customers and, well, it didn’t disappoint. The course was set up with palm trees, mini jumps, and a tricky slalom course to keep the racing tight and fair. The only casualty was Dave “Dazzles” Addington who went down early but only suffered a good scratch on his elbow.
The turnout was great as we had a good number of shop regulars turn up, as well as the staff and their friends so the event was a big success and the racing was more fun and competitive than I thought –It is amazing just how fast you can ride a tiny little bike when your racing head to head with a co-worker or friend. To get a better idea of what it’s like just imagine go-cart racing but using 16’ wheel BMX bikes.
Thanks to Scott M., RVC’s service manager, who was the grill-master keeping everyone well fed , and Gord, our #1 club member, did a great job keeping the race organized with all the qualifier rounds & and finals. As for the racing action, check out some of the pictures from the race we put on Facebook. (You’ll see the grins and the intensity in a few people’s eyes.) We hope to host another GL GP before the snow falls so keep checking our web site, or better yet, join our Facebook page to receive the next race invitation to your inbox.
